Excerpt from chapter titled "Managing Anger"

"Do you have an anger problem or an injustice problem?
Anger is one of the most common but misunderstood emotions. It can cause so much destruction and heartache when it is out of control, but it actually has some specific roles to perform in our life. Before anger can be managed to its best advantage, it must be understood.
Angers’ first and primary role is to send us a warning that we are experiencing what we believe to be an injustice — something is happening to us that is not fair and that we should do something about it, or we are going to get hurt. It can be likened to pain in the physical realm. If something is happening to our body that is causing it harm, pain is the early warning system that alerts us that something is wrong. Imagine putting your finger on a hot element on the stove. Because the finger cannot move itself, a message has to get from the site of the problem up to the control centre of the body — the brain, so that it can activate the hand to move. Without pain, we might eventually see it or smell it burning but by then we would have a major problem. Pain is the early warning system.
Its second role is to generate the energy required to push back at the injustice. If you are going to do something about an injustice, then it will require energy to do so..."

Resolving Conflict (50 minute CD) Allan Baker - Resolving Conflict

Allan Baker

$10.00

Conflict in life is inevitable, and the ability to negotiate is one of the three essential life skills which many of us never had the opportunity to learn. This CD looks at the skills necessary to enable conflict to be resolved in a way that produces a win-win outcome that enhances both personal and work place relationships. Four main strategies are discussed with a step by step process on negotiation, together with a glimpse at some of the major saboteurs and barriers to resolving conflict, including the power of disappointment, the role of feelings, the inability to hear and say no, and the influence of our natural ways of processing and reasoning.
